Exotic Pets represents a hobby that has grown into one of the best pet shops in Western North Carolina. How did it get started? Roger Chipman grew up on a farm in Virginia and always had lots of animals - he even had an insect collection. After earning a Bachelors degree in Architecture and a Masters in Urban and Regional Planning from Virginia Tech in 1964, Roger moved to the Asheville area and become the Chief Planner for Western North Carolina. One of his lasting achievements is his major role in the development and design of downtown Hendersonville. During this period, Roger never lost his love of animals of all kinds including horses, puppies and tropical fish. As his hobbies grew he decided to open Exotic Pets in April of 1970 and it is now known as one of the best, longest running pet stores in the USA. Roger and his wife Mary continue to show their beloved horses to this day.

All of our staff have a great knowledge about animals, as most of them have been in the industry for a good percentage of their careers, and are pet owners their selves. They can be very helpful in matching you with the right breed of dog for your family ( not all dog breeds fit in all families and we make sure to inform our customers of that ), or the right kind of pet if dogs just aren't your thing.
